Starsailor - 2009 Philanthropy Artisit of the Year

STARSAILOR

Working in conjunction with Hard Rock International, Starsailor has been crisscrossing the globe in support of such philanthropic groups as the Caron Keating Foundation, the AECC of Barcelona and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. In between all of the live benefit shows, they’ve somehow found time to record an exclusive and stunning cover of Graham Nash's "Military Madness" for the Hard Rock/World Hunger Year Serve3 charity album.

Taking their name for Tim Buckley's experimental album of the same name (which, by the way, alienated fans and critics alike, yet gave Buckley confidence by not compromising his artistic tendencies), Starsailor formed in a time of U.K. music giants like Oasis and Travis and immediately stormed the guitar-centric music world with a confidence belying their young ages and their limited experience, to the consternation of fans and critics alike. The public, though, quickly realized that this young band knew what they were doing. Even before they released their first album, they were selling out shows in the U.K., letting everyone know that a new "it" had arrived.

Yet, Starsailor has never given in to the tendencies that beset all of the other "it" bands, never let their heads grow out of proportion to their body of work, always pushing themselves to do better, to do more, to find new avenues for their musical vehicles and artistic tendencies. As such, from their first album, Love Is Here, to their most recent, All The Plans, Starsailor grasps and understands the power of music to convey real emotion and lift the spirit. Starsailor stays true to themselves, opening their hearts to the world and allowing everyone to dig below the surface, finding beauty and power and one amazing band.
